The Board of Visitors (BoV) for the NC Central University School of Law has elected Member William G. Pagán as their new Chair. As noted in the BoV bylaws, the Board Chair is considered to be “the Chief Volunteer of the NCCU School of Law [and] is a partner with the Dean in achieving the NCCU School of Law’s mission.”
“I love NC Central, so it’s all the more fulfilling to be honored by representatives of its most distinguished alumni with this responsibility,” said Attorney Pagán. “My participation in this role at an HBCU embodies the solidarity between the Black and Latine communities that I believe is so essential in our mutual pursuit of, among other things, social justice, racial equity, and socioeconomic parity; e.g., through professional kinship and conspicuous service.”
Established in 1939, the School of Law at NC Central University has produced a substantial proportion of the leading attorneys practicing patent law in North Carolina. In particular, graduates from Central have historically been highly successful at Coats & Bennett, with firm Members Will Pagán, Ed Green and Steve Herrera each having graduated from their evening program. Attorney Deirdre Beasley, a recent addition to the firm, is also a Central Law graduate. Coats & Bennett continues to look forward to the next generation of NCCU Legal Eagles who will become leaders at their firm and throughout the legal industry.
