Every year, the North Carolina Pro Bono Resource Center (PBRC) and the Supreme Court of North Carolina honor attorneys of the NC bar who have reported exceeding more than 50 hours of pro legal services for the year. For the fourth year in a row, Attorney William G. Pagán has been so honored by induction into the 2020 NC Pro Bono Honor Society. Of the approximately 28,000 lawyers licensed to practice in NC, Attorney Pagán is one of only 589 attorneys inducted this year.
In 2020, Attorney Pagán served as the NC Wing Legal Officer of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), United States Air Force Auxiliary, serving as a member of the NC Wing Commander’s staff and supervising the team of Assistant Legal Officers throughout NC. In this capacity, Attorney Pagán was responsible for providing legal advice on a wide variety of issues implicating CAP programs, missions, and other activities. These activities included, among other things, CAP NC Wing’s participation in the state’s response to the COVID-19 crisis.
In 2020, Attorney Pagán was also added to the Board of Visitors at North Carolina Central University School of Law, where he collaborates with some of the school’s most prominent alumni to advise on furthering the goals and missions of the law school. NCCU School of Law was founded in 1939 to provide opportunities for African American students to become lawyers. The school is presently missioned to provide a quality, affordable legal education to historically underrepresented students from diverse backgrounds and thereby increase diversity in the legal profession.
